Monday Motivation: Dragons!

Puppies, kittens, and bunnies are all motivating in their own way, with cuddles and soft fur, but let me just propose this: dragons. Dragons are one of the more popular mythological creatures, it's true, yet we don't always appreciate their inspirational and motivational magic.

Take the above draconic artwork, for example. The dragon is large, dark, mysterious, ominous, perhaps even threatening. But consider this: a dragon leaving its cave in the morning, full of sleepiness and yawns. It trudges about the small clearing outside its cave, yawns and sits for a moment, and then trudges back to the cave and back to bed. Monday mornings are hard, even for dragons.

The copper dragon above, whose hoard is clearly the most wonderful books, looks somewhat ferocious, malevolent, or at least growly. However, it's entirely possible that this dragon woke up early, hasn't had his coffee yet, and realized that his pet knocked over several stacks of books in the night (again!) and he has to clean it up. Such extensive organization so early on a Monday morning isn't necessarily fun, but if a dragon can do it, so can you!

I particularly like this sea dragon sketch, not only because the dragon is smiling (adorbz), but also because I'm deep into oceanography at the moment (a combination of research necessity and serious interest). There is so much we don't know about the ocean; for all we know, there are sea dragons down there. Although a dragon like this connotes fierce sea monsters, this one makes me think of rising out of the sea to view the sunrise - something hard to do normally, but even more difficult on a Monday morning.

In addition to large majestic dragons, I have found many artworks focusing on smaller dragons, generating thoughts of everyday dragons, household dragons, dragons you can find on the street like Pokémon on Pokémon Go (wouldn't that be a fabulous game? Dragon Go?). I love the idea that, waking up on a Monday morning, my own little pet dragon would great me and we could take on the week together.

Do you find dragons motivating? Would you play Dragon Go?
