"How many girls live here?" he asked, as they passed a large group in the hall. She smiled and continued leading him to the main office. They stopped at a large mahogany door, where she gestured for him to wait and slipped inside.
He gazed around the hall, taking in the ornate patterns across the ceilings and higher walls. Several girls, clad in the household colors of black and gold, passed him. He lifted his hat to them, but they stared ahead, not even noticing or acknowledging him.
