My journey had a definite destination; there were many of us, around the world, of various ages, whose necklaces had always been ice cold, almost burning our skin. It was an annual meeting for those who lost soulmates early on and were cheated of a cherished rite of passage. The meeting served to replace that rite, offering a journey and the promise of lifelong friendship; some had even discovered relationships so close to soulmates that their necklaces languished in jewelry boxes.
